Stunner Rascal is a big bold horse that was bred to perform. He was brought into the UK to stand in the HIS scheme. He came second in the Donald Buchanon Cup in that year in the scheme. Since then he has stood as a Performance Sire breeding high grade jumping horses His sire Stuyvesant, winner of the German Derby, is from the Priamos Birkhan line so renowned in Germany for breeding top race and performance horses. Stuyvesant, himself Champion 3 year old in Germany, was exported to Japan, where he became a leading sire Stuyvesant's dam Sabera is an own sister to Sayonara, the dam of Slip Anchor. Stunner has much black type in his pedigree, including his own sister Stylish Rascal He has the looks presence and ability to sire bold eventers. Of his first crop is the advanced eventer Phineas Fox, Eventer, Showjumper, Team Chaser and Timber Racer a tough proven horse. From the same crop is Wychway Int Eventer, now sold to Ireland and eventing there.
He is also the sire of Pembridge Soloman a Grade A showjumping stallion, and the young event stallion Pembridge Music Master, who has just started his eventing career with Ian Wills, so successful with his stablemate Pembridge Minstrel. Master starting late in the 2000 season gained 10 points in three outings. He is therefore an exiting prospect for 2001.Another of his eventing prospects next time is the TB stallion Pembridge Stunning Gold, who will be evented by his owner Steve Blendell He has many other young eventers in the wings that have inherited his ability, that are starting to make their mark. In view of his European connection many of Stunners progeny have been exported to Holland, Germany, and Ireland flying the flag for British Breeding.
He is also the sire of successful showjumpers perhaps the most noted still in the UK is Pembridge Rascal, jumped so successfully by Bina Ford, now sold to Anna Edwards a young rider, so successful on ponies,in the British Teams, both showjumping and eventing, now moving on the horses and aiming for the top. Stunner has proved himself a Sire of Sires, both here and in Europe.
In addition to his performance horses, he has also sired many County in Hand and Ridden winners, such as Pembridge Honkytonk, who had such a successful career with Moggy Henessey and Pembridge Coacoa, who took the two year old Championship at Caronjay For a complete list of his past and current progeny achievement's please email the stud .

Stunner is a key stallion for the improvement of British Breeding. He put in an outstanding performance at his grading for Anglo European that is still talked about today.
Stunners own competition career career under saddle came to a tragic end following his licensing at AES in 1994. He had had a glorious day where his exceptional jump had caught much attention inviting comments from Geoff Glazzard, 'that it was one of the best TB jumps that he had ever seen' Stunner went down on the lorry and we thought that we had lost him with a broken leg. Not Stunner. This tough brave horse, fought back and defied all the odds. Various vets said that he would never be sound again, never cover again and certainly never be ridden. The story of how we achieved the impossible is for another time. Suffice to say within the year Stunner was covering again and within eighteen months sound and ridden. The breathtaking jump is still there, but after his courage through his ordeal no more will be asked of the horse in competition. He lives to jump and its is a relief that that has not been taken away from him. He is still is the showman and loves to jump when shown to stud clients. He was a precious asset to British Breeding that was so nearly lost. Jane Kidd referred to him in the preface to the 1998 Otterswick Marketing Stalllion Guide as the 'unsung hero' of British Breeding. Like so many good stallions, this could well prove to be true and it will be through his progeny that his worth will be realised.
I will say this that it is a privilege to have the horse as part of the stud. He stamps his progeny with his athleticism and his temperament. They say of a good horse a type hard to find. He is one on his own the likes of which are rarely seen.
These are but a few brief extracts from the life of a horse that is one of the core stallions in our Performance Breeding Programme. The book is being written, but neither he nor I are ready for the epitaph yet.
Stunner is currently not under saddle having kicked his stable wall and fracturing a small bone in his fetlock. now recovered This tough TB once more has risen above all odds and is now ready to come back into work.under saddle
